That gentle pause from life's intrusions is essential for the artist. But surely not for all the rest of us as well? Perhaps, between the dark and the daylight, if we all took a few moments to seclude ourselves from life's routine, the ordinary mortal might also discover an artistic identity. Travis Edmonson reflects on how vital such moments are for him.
In the evening, there is
A time that becomes imperative;
A dusk between day and night
That is not secretive--
A breath-holder.
It is, to me,
A time of inspiration.
Seven days a week,
A fountain of creation.
It offers me
A pause from life's intrusions...
A "time out" for ideas.
Vacation from confusion,
A present from my id.
