“We only know Travis Edmonson through his music. His footprints are large!”

GERALD TIERNEY's appreciation of Bud and Travis has been long standing and many miled.
“Bud & Travis and I go back quite a way, since I was in high school near Georgetown when Bud & Travis, then Bud w/ the Kinsmen and then Bud & Travis were fixtures at a club called the Shadows run by some students at Georgetown University in 1962/4 or so.
The popular folk revival was in full swing, and a local FM radio station on the Virginia side of the river (which I still call home even though it has long since ceased being Virginia and is now effectively a suburb of D.C.) run by Arthur W. Arundel and Dick Cerri got my underage self as close to the stage as possible.
Folk music split into two camps - the contemporary and political activist side, and the antiquarian side. I went down the latter (even tuning my guitar's G string to an F# so lute tabs would sound correctly).
I travel now to Peru and when no one's around I find a guitar and try out some B&T riffs and even some B&T lyrics. I don't know Spanish but I know the lyrics well enough to be understood and the melodies will always be with me. Thanks for helping to bring it all back. I still have the vinyls of course, and still read the liner notes. And when my Peruvian friends come here ( now it's Illinois) The Latin Album still draws applause.”

MIKE SANDERS in New York has a special affection for the Perspective on Bud & Travis album.
“Perspective on Bud and Travis” was my first "folk music" album as a lad. There are songs on that album that I have heard in my imagination for years. How pleased I was to see that this album is again available! In the words of another Bud and Travis song: So Long, Stay Well!”

RANDY WRIGHT in California shared a special family experience during the taping of a live Bud & Travis album.
My brother Robin and I were there to see Bud and Travis during their run at the Cellar Door in Washington, D.C. when the “Bud & Travis in Person” album was recorded. We were there with our parents on vacation. We got to chat with Buckwheat, the bassist, between sets.
It was a great show and the Cellar Door album has remained one of my brother's
favorites.”

FRANCES LEMONIAS, who particularly cherishes the Bud and Travis “debut album,” has a special recollection from attending one of their live performances.
“I was thrilled to see Bud & Travis at the Ashgrove when I was a student at UCLA fifty-some years ago. Adding to the thrill was Bud's comment to me as I was walking in, "Hello, Young Lady!" I was not a folk music fan, but I fell in love with both of them and their music.”

TIM CONN in Auburn, California purchased the Perspective on Bud & Travis CD especially to hear their version of Sabras Que Te Quiero.
“I first discovered Bud and Travis in the `60s. I thought they had the most wonderful blend of voices, and the guitar work was always out of this world.
The Spanish pieces have always been among my favorites. B&T's versions of Cielito Lindo, Guantanamera, and Anna have never been surpassed. I have only heard Bud's rendering of Que Te Quiero, Sabras Que Te Quiero, but I am looking forward to hearing their duet version. As far as the Spanish songs go, I have always wished that they had recorded Perfidia and Quando Caliente el Sol, but I guess you can't have everything.
Is there an undistorted version of I Talk to the Trees? The multi-media version is sadly distorted, but Bud looks as if he is having such a good time with the instrumental sections. It is a lot of fun to watch and the quality of their singing and playing is evident in spite of the technology problem. Thanks for making their music available to another couple of generations."

[To those who were also wondering, Bud & Travis recorded “I Talk to the Trees” as a single.]
JOE GRANDE IS what we'd refer to call Bud & Travis Royalty, having attended the famous recorded concert at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
“When the music died in 1959, here in Los Angeles we were rescued by Hoyt Axton, Dave Van Ronk, and Bud & Travis.
From my senior year of high school until I was drafted in 1963, I spent more time at the Troubadour, the Ash Grove and McCabe's then I spent in the classroom. In truth, these were my classrooms and Travis and some of the others were my teachers.
I was born March 24,1941, and as a freshman at Loyola University, spent my 19th birthday with about a dozen friends at the Santa Monica Concert (3rd row stage rrigth as I recall). Unquestionably the best birthday of my life.
I am sure that hearing Travis On Cue and On His Own again will bring back more memories of Travis and the Troub.”

Another of those lucky enough to see Travis Edmonson perform live, JULIE FERNON in Arizona, who describes herself as “a fan since Day One,” declares the debut album “Bud and Travis” to be her favorite.
“I remember in the 60s seeing Bud and Travis play in a coffee shop named Don Quijotes, which I believe was near the corner of Campbell and Limberlost in Tucson.
We need to gang up and get XM's channel 15 folk channel to start playing Travis!”

JOE LONG in San Luis Obispo enjoyed seeing But & Trravis as part of the southern California coffee house scene during the great folk era.
“I saw Bud & Travis in the 60's @ The Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, California, and that concert was very similar to the "In Person at The Cellar Door" one. I have the album on 33 1/3, but am glad now to have it on CD.”
