JIM MILLER in Connecticut is one of those who's only recently discovered the music of Bud & Travis, but ever since, it's constantly playing in the Miller household.

“It must have been about 5 years ago that I first heard Sloop John B on the Time Life  "Hootenanny" (Folk) CD.  After listening to the extended version of "Sleep John Boo [Sloop John B]", I was hooked. I had borrowed the CD from the Stamford Public Library. But I tried recently to find a copy of it on Time-Life music's website... no go. It must have gone out of production. Sloop was the only track from Bud & Travis on the double disc set. And it included the hilarious long spoken intro... "I'll 'spont' a little for you..."

Then only about 2 or 3 years ago, scouring the web, I came across a reissue CD, "The Best of Bud and Travis". It's a good thing CD's don't wear out the way Vinyl did. This CD would have worn out in the first month! My wife and I play it all the time! We love Travis Edmonson's music!

I'm listening to Bud &Travis as I write this! I think my 3 favorite tracks are Sloop John B (with the extended intro), Sin Ti, and Bonsoir Dame (which I've learned a basic rendition of on guitar). But then, I also love Cloudy Summer  Afternoon, Haiti, Malaguena Salerosa, Guess I'll Go Home. Oh... I like 'em all.  And I love playing along on my chromatic harmonica with them.

Thank you so much for all your efforts making this music available again! It really brightens our lives! And please pass on my best wishes and gratitude to Travis for how his music has blessed our lives! It has inspired me to finally take up playing acoustic guitar, something I've wanted to do for most of my life.”

LOUISE SHANE, enthusiastic fan and friend for 50-plus years, sent the following greeting through the website following Travis Edmonson's memorable appearance at 2006 Trio Fantasy Camp.

“Hey Travis,

So glad my boys were able to meet you! Hope my entire family can see you there next year. In the mean time, how can I purchase all of your music, and are they on CD? My love and best wishes to you and yours.”

Describing himself as being “from a place that is only a few hours drive, both geographically and culturally, from where Travis grew up and where he now lives, “ BARRY ROTHROCK has nevertheless found his way to the music of the region via a map  drawn by Travis Edmonson.

“although I have always enjoyed all of B&T's albums (as well as Travis' solo albums and Bud's with the Kinsmen) the music that I think is the absolute best is all the Latin music which they played (most assuredly through Travis' interest) and as such was my main gateway to that genre in my early 20's.

In the years since I began listening to B&T, I have, thanks to them, gravitated to and "discovered" a great deal of that music myself, a lot of it the popular music of Mexico from the 30's and 40's, ie. Sin Ti, Rayito De Luna and Los Dos that I first heard from their records. There are I find, almost unbelievably, still young latin musicians singing those songs and keeping them alive, which is surely a testament to their excellence.”

We received these heart-warming words from BRUCE MELZER after arrival of the `debut' CD “Bud and Travis” from The Travis Edmonson Collection.

“I received the”Bud and Travis” CD!!!!!!!!!

I felt like I'd gone to heaven when I heard the "debut album" on CD instead of LP! LP's have their own unique sound but I love the clean CD sound...it's like being there instead of listening on a record player.

Travis's music takes me away from reality each time
I listen. What beautiful talent they had! I will treasure their music for the rest of my days!”

TONI CONNER GOLDBACH, now resident in southern California, finds that Travis Edmonson's music brings her instantly back to Arizona whenever she hears him sing.

"I first saw Travis in concert at the University of Arizona  with the original Los Chanquitos Feos (several of whom are the renowned Mariachi Cobre de Randy Carillo).

My mom was a fan before I was. Her favorite song was Malagueña Salerosa, and she also loved Vamos Al Baille. She had known Travis' brother, Erloyde.

I worked at the College Shop near campus when Travis did a show with Bob  Shane, and they came in shopping, and everyone was so stunned when Travis and  I started talking.

We also heard him at various venues in Tucson. I remember a particularly stirring rendition of Noche de Paz one Christmas eve when I was home  (Tucson) from teaching in San Diego.

Travis was at a book signing here in San Diego for Tortillas. I tried to keep up with his doings over the years.  I often wonder what became of Armando Rios. Travis, remember when you came out to the Boys Club and sang for the kids? I think that was where Armando first saw you.

I was able to see the PBS
show “Border Crossings,” but that was pre-VCR days for us! I think that the last time I saw Travis was at Hobo Joe's on Broadway (now long gone) late one night.   I was with my mom and husband-to-be and we talked about my moving to California and getting married, etc.  My mom and he talked about his brother whom she had known for many years.  Both my mom and Earl have passed on.

But my love for Tucson has certainly endured.  I have thought often that  when I hear Travis' music I almost feel the pull back to my roots.  I had always thought it would be wonderful to just sit and talk once more.

Oh...and I remember the song that really "sings" to me.  “It Ain't Easy.”  After I wrote this last night I read all of the other comments.  That was a magical time.

Thanks, Trav."

BARRY ROTHROCK, who comes “from a place that is only a few hours drive, both geographically and culturally, from where Travis grew up and where he now lives” adds some remarks to his original contribution to the website on Recollections & Comments 6.

”in this day of iPods (which, to me as an extreme music lover, is one of the most wonderful machines of our time), digital music has completely taken over my listening parameters. That being said, any and all the Bud & Travis music that I have  in digital form makes my music options and by extension, my life a great
deal better.

When the "Best of Bud & Travis" CD came out a few years ago, it was such a treat to have that music available again, and now your efforts have helped to fill out my "digital" collection of Travis' music. I can't thank you enough (and of course, Travis, himself) for those efforts!

In thinking of how much Travis' music meant to me in my younger years (and continues to be), both for listening and also as a source of songs to sing in my own serenading and singing (back then I even bought myself a Goya G30 guitar which I believe is what Travis played for much of his musical career), it is really quite wonderful that through your efforts that this music continues to be available.
Yiassou!"

SALLY sherringham is another fan who melts when hearing Travis Edmonson sing Malagueña Salerosa.

“I have the Tucson Tapes version of Malagueña, and play it every day!  There's just no other song which moves me so much.”

PAUL GAJDOS , who has contributed previously (Recollections & Comments) , has bought nearly all the CDs in The Travis Edmonson Collection.  While the `debut' album has received the highest praise from most buyers thus far as “sounding like it was produced in a 21st century studio,” Paul has found an album he likes even better.

“I just received the album on CD, "Perspective On Bud & Travis.” This one tops them all for clarity and crispness of recording. The CD sound is superb and the separation between the two voices is excellent.  I was completely satisfied with the other CD releases but this one is really the tops. Thanks again.”
